As the European Union began enforcing a ban on single-use packaging, utensils, and bottles on this summer, the European Specialty Tea Association (ESTA) has declared that 'packaging' itself is one of the defining characteristics of specialty coffee and tea.

In the past, premium coffees and teas were differentiated through factors such as aroma, color, flavor, and mouthfeel, but packaging, especially eco-friendly and sustainable packaging, has become one of the differentiating factors.

'Packaging' is one of the factors that consumers make purchase decisions. Now, there is a need to consider environmental and ethical factors beyond the functional and aesthetic factors that simply protect products and inform product information.
