Q Gathering is a networking session organized by SCA Korea in October 2025. It brings together coffee educators and professionals to share knowledge and experience about the redesigned Q Grader program, now based on CVA (Coffee Value Assessment).
The Q program, previously operated by CQI (Coffee Quality Institute), was transferred to SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) in 2025. This marks a significant transition as the global coffee education system integrates into a new standard.
Q Grader education has evolved beyond traditional score-based evaluation. It now comprehensively addresses the physical, descriptive, affective,
and extrinsic values of coffee using the CVA framework. This session will be led by Garam Nam, SCA Education Manager. Nam directly experienced the new Q Grader offline course in Japan during the curriculum launch.
Drawing from this firsthand experience, the session aims to guide Q Instructors preparing to open Q Grader courses, as well as Q Graders and coffee professionals considering becoming Q Instructors.
Together, we'll explore the core structure and direction of the new education program and discuss its implications.
